“The only way to happiness is by immitating God, who gave His all that we might have everything in this world justly shared with one another. If one gives to the poor, he must keep in mind that it is not the poor that it is given to but to CHRIST. Therefore, we cannot afford to be blind and deaf to the One who gave us everything; the only way of expressing our gratitude to Him is by giving back through His poor our love and charity”

Per Pope Francis, “God shows the poor his first mercy. He wants a Church which is poor and for the poor. He further explains that love for the poor does not consist of a series of welfare projects for the benefit of the poor without a sense of identifying with their person. Loving them by appreciating who they are, their particular identity conditioned by their culture and experience of life, their goodness and in their practice of the faith. This will bring about authentic concern for them, eliminating their exploitation in the service of selfish ends”.
